Professional Background 

I have more than 35 year of professional experience with the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). This has included on average 100 mediations each year for the past decade, concentrating specifically on employment discrimination cases. 

 

I created the Mediation Program for the Pittsburgh EEOC office in 1997 (years before the Federal Court began their Mediation Program). In addition to managing the program and conducting mediation conferences, I recruited mediators, provided mentoring for novice mediators, directed internships, provided technical assistance and guidance, as well as marketed the mediation program through outreach activities, lectures and guest speaking opportunities at seminars and training forums.

I participate as one of nine professionals on the panel of mediators for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's Intermediation Program, involved since programs inception, in 2005.

​

I have mediated numerous cases through the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania since its program began in 2006, including several pro bono Federal Prisoner Rights cases.

​

Especially through my experience with the EEOC, I've mediated with many large, well-known corporations, school districts, universities, restaurants and small businesses.

Personal Background 

Memberships:  Smithfield United Church of Christ, Lions Club (past President, currently, Treasurer), Mediation Council of Western Pennsylvania (Past President), Sierra Club, Rails-to-Trails, Nature Conservancy, Board of Directors of the Penn West Conference of the United Church of Christ.

Interests and Activities:  Bicycling, hiking, cross-country skiing, canoeing, traveling, beach vacations, wood-working, reading, golfing,  and spending time with my wife and our three daughters' families, including seven grandchildren  -  and a great grandson. I enjoy the time I volunteer at the monthly county food bank distributions and in building wheel chair ramps through United Methodist's Misson Barn in Lawrence County.
